Bratislava the capital of the Slovak Republic with a population of half a million people has a very advantageous location. It lies in the middle of Europe on the both banks of the river Danube under Small Karpaty slopes. It borders on Hungary in the south and on Austria in the west. At present it has all the attributes of modern city. Bratislava is a seat of the President, the Government, diplomatic corps, important political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and social organizations and research institutions with national and international appeal as well. From other development viewpoint there is a very favorable human brain and enthusiasm in every field of human activity in a big city.
It has been the capital of independent Slovak Republic since January 1, 1993. Bratislava is associated to European Metropolises Association called EUROCITIES
Thanks to unique architectural, historical, and cultural and nature attraction Bratislava is the city of art and tourism. Many hotels serve to tourists; restorations besides Slovak specialties offer world cuisine, Italian pizza, Asian, Balkanian or Jewish kosher food. There are many coffee shops and pubs, which attract the visitors as well as home people. A very strong enticement is historical Old Town with its lovely streets and well-known Korzo. Only a few forgo an opportunity to see national cultural sights such as Bratislava’s castle, gothic St. Martin Dome, Primacialny palace, the Old Town Hall, Michael’s Tower or Franciscan church. Friendly city charm is narrowly connected with its cultural and artistic tradition as well as with some famous names such as Mozart, Hummel, Haydn, Rubinstein, Bartok, Liszt, Donner, Tilgner, Warchal, Dvorsky and many others. There are annual events. To many cultural places belong also Slovak National Museum, the City Museum, Slovak National Gallery, the Gallery of the city of Bratislava and many concert halls, foreign cultural institutions, cinemas, clubs and casinos. The visitors will not be disappointed by surroundings of the city either. You can try excellent wine in near villages in the bottom of Small Karpaty; cycle-touring fans are able to use the rout leading along the river Danube from Austria to Bratislava and to Gabcikovo. Ancient Devin castle or romantic Cerveny Kamen will attract history keens. In spite of significant changes Bratislava keeps its hospitality and typical coloring which are magnets for all its visitors.
